Day 6 - What do you need?

Day 6 – What Do You Need? 13 Scriptures to Bring Comfort

Day 6 - What do you need?

//  What do you need today? What is your heart’s desire?

For some of us, the answer may be relatively simple… I need better results at school. I need a different job.

For others, the answer may be more difficult… I need more money. I need the pain in my body to stop. I need more time in the day.

And still, for others, the answer is entirely out of their control… I need a miracle. I need my spouse back.

This week, two of my precious friends lost their spouses, both after a devastating battle with cancer. Our hearts are broken for both of them and their families. Life is not fair.

“Father, if only we could turn back time. I want the impossible.”

And yet, in the middle of the heartache, do you know what I hear? Music. Songs from my youth. Melodies start, and lyrics follow, whisking me back to precious moments with God from yesteryear…

One thing is needful, oh my Father

One thing is needful, oh my God

That I sit at Your feet and pour out my love

This thing is needful, oh my Lord  Read more

Day 5 - are ya winning

Day 5: Are Ya Winning? (When You Feel Like a Loser)

Day 5 - Winning when you feel like a loser

//  Do you ever have days when you feel completely overcome by the world around you? I do. Maybe not as much as I used to, but every now and again it still happens.

I remember a season when our pastor had a catch-phrase that he would ask everyone when he met them. He’d say, “Are ya winning?”

I hated that phrase. I mean, I didn’t hate the actual words, and I certainly didn’t hate him, but I dreaded having to answer those three words…

“Are ya winning?”

Am I winning? Oh heck, I don’t think so. But if I’m not winning, that must mean that I’m losing. It must mean that I’m a lose-er.

“Are ya winning?”

I remember avoiding Pastor Louis ‘like the plague’ during that season. If I saw him on one side of the church, I’d go to the other. If I saw him standing in the front parking lot, I’d drive around to the back lot. I couldn’t bear the thought of having to answer that one little question.

Day 4 Create

Day 4 – How to Create when You’ve got Writer’s Block in Life

Day 4 Create

Tongue tied, mind blank, uninspired, burned out, writer’s block… Whatever you call it, it’s awful.

This has been a hectic week of busyness for me, the culmination of months of musical instruction and training. My voice and piano students have their formal exams in less than forty-eight hours, and the pressure is ON. I know, I know, the pressure is theirs to bear, not mine. But a teacher always carries the silent burden of

“Have I done enough? Do they really understand? Are they ready?”

Add to that the last-minute pressures of final rehearsals, emotionally charged students with exam-day jitters, and it’s only natural to ask yourself, “Have I forgotten anything?”

It’s no wonder I have writer’s block.

To be honest, Walking in Unforced Rhythms is proving to be both a mystery and a challenge to me. I wish I could say that I’m a master at this, but I’m really not. It’s more like I’m enrolled in ‘Unforced Rhythm School’ and wading through performance reviews and mid-terms.

Father, help me.

And then, the strangest thing happened tonight. As I lay my head on my pillow, willing myself to slumber, inspiration finally struck.     Read more
