Day 26: Everyone Needs A Party
This largely unedited free-write is linking up with the Write 31 Days Challenge. I’m a couple of days behind but still going! // indicates the start and stop of five minutes. The prompt word for today is EAT. Go!

// The candles were lit. The table set. Little eyes were eagerly looking through the blinds for the first glimpses of headlights in the driveway.
“He’s here! He’s here! Shhhhhh. Hide!”
Every now and then, we’d play this game. On a day when he least expected it, we’d make a nice supper (which was actually a normal supper, but everything is nicer in candlelight) and surprise daddy with a “HAPPY DADDY PARTY!” Daddy would express his surprise and delight (which he truly was), and we would have an occasion to celebrate.
- Did daddy deserve a party? NO.
- Was it his birthday? NO.
- Was he an egotistical maniac who required praise and adoration from small people? Well, maybe.
- Did he need to be encouraged? DEFINITELY!
The point of the “Happy Daddy Party” was to FIND A REASON TO CELEBRATE! You could make it a “Happy Family Party!” or a “Happy Grandma Party” or even a “Happy Friday Party!”
No matter what it's called, value your times together… eating, sharing, connecting. Click To TweetEspecially when seasons are tough, when the bank account is bleeding, or the boss is grumpy. Everyone needs a party sometimes.
Funny, eh? But it worked.
Moods changed, hearts were lightened, and if only for a moment, the stress would melt away into FAMILY. //

P.S. The bonus of eating by candlelight (which I still try to do as often as possible), is that little eyes don’t look as closely at their food. You can hide LOTS of finely cut veggies in their supper when there’s candlelight!

This is awesome! Such a great idea!
Thanks, Katha! It’s been fun!
Best wishes on your move today! May everything find it’s new place and new space quickly and easily.
I love this fun post, and the idea of impromptu Happy Whatever parties. By candlelight, of course!
Haha, thanks Sylvia. It is fun. I think we should spend more time celebrating normal life instead of waiting for special occasions.
Thanks so much for visiting today! 🙂
Of course! Thanks so much for visiting, Sylvia! Let me know how your next Happy Whatever party turns out. (I even like the randomness of that idea… 🙂 )
I LOVE the idea of a Happy Daddy Party! I wish I’d thought about doing this when our boys were younger. We could still probably do it . . . and maybe do it for each of our boys on occasion too. They definitely deserve to be celebrated. Thanks for sharing this fun, meaningful idea!
You could definitely do it! We’re never too old to be celebrated. They may think you’re a bit crazy, but that’s never stopped us before, has it? 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting!
Great thoughts here, Shauna.
What a brilliant idea! I so want to do this in the near future! Thank you for your continuous inspiration.
Haha, you are very welcome. Those are some of my favourite memories. I’d love to hear how your party goes. 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting!
Oh wonderful! Spontaneous celebrations! I love it. When my kids were small many veggies went into juicing. Mixed with apples and other yummy sweet fruit the never knew! FMF “41
That’s a great idea, Mary. I’ve never had a juicer but I’ve wanted one for a long time. What is your favourite recipe? Thanks so much for visiting. Heading over to #41 to visit you too.
How delightful to throw your husband a “party”! Thank you for sharing with us!
