Day 5: Are Ya Winning? (When You Feel Like a Loser)

Day 5 - Winning when you feel like a loser

//  Do you ever have days when you feel completely overcome by the world around you? I do. Maybe not as much as I used to, but every now and again it still happens.

I remember a season when our pastor had a catch-phrase that he would ask everyone when he met them. He’d say, “Are ya winning?”

I hated that phrase. I mean, I didn’t hate the actual words, and I certainly didn’t hate him, but I dreaded having to answer those three words…

“Are ya winning?”

Am I winning? Oh heck, I don’t think so. But if I’m not winning, that must mean that I’m losing. It must mean that I’m a lose-er.

“Are ya winning?”

I remember avoiding Pastor Louis ‘like the plague’ during that season. If I saw him on one side of the church, I’d go to the other. If I saw him standing in the front parking lot, I’d drive around to the back lot. I couldn’t bear the thought of having to answer that one little question.

Collect Words of Life, Not Criticism

//  The BEST part of moving houses, or cities, or nations is that you get rid of the old and start fresh. Garage sales, yard sales, rummage sales, although painful at times are brilliant for reducing clutter.

Minimal mess. Minimal clutter. Minimal packing.

But what about our emotional, mental, and psychological baggage? How do we manage that kind of clutter after years of collecting life experiences?

This season has been harder than I expected. Little did I know that when I pressed ‘publish’ on my book, I would be pressing GO on a roller coaster of emotional turbulence.

  • Insecurity? Haven’t dealt with that in years, but here we go!
  • Comparison? Oh, my goodness, where did that come from?
  • Second-guessing myself? Stop this ride—I wanna get off now.

There’s a verse in the Bible that speaks about God sending His Word and then TESTING that Word (check out Psalm 105:19). I think that’s what’s been happening here. You see, whenever we allow God to use us to deliver something important, WE get tested in it first.    Read more

Day 22: Strip It Off!

This largely unedited free-write is linking up with the Write 31 Days Challenge. // indicates the start and stop of five minutes. The prompt word for today is OFF. Go!

//  Can we get honest here for a minute? If I were to ask you what is the ONE thing that trips you up in life, what you say?

I’ve been thinking about this today and I’d have to say that comparing myself to others is my Achilles heel. It knocks me flat every time. Feeling confident and secure until that moment when someone else comes along… someone prettier, happier, skinnier, wealthier, more talented, more popular, more disciplined. You name it.

But it’s usually when I’m tired or feeling run down that this happens.  It happens when I let my guard down.

But isn’t that the nastiness of our enemy? He knows exactly when and where to strike―when we’re weak, and in the point of our weakness. If I was an athlete, I would tape up the sore muscle to keep it from further injury. If I was a soldier, I would protect my vital organs from fatal attack.

So why is it that, as Moms, we don’t anticipate and protect ourselves from what will surely come at us? The enemy ALWAYS attacks those he’s most afraid of.

Did you hear that?
