This past year has been just that… a journey into discovering Identity. And I’ve come to the conclusion that finding identity is both simple and incredibly complex.

Let me give you an example:

♥ When a new mom comes home with that little bundle of joy, she takes on the label of “Mom,” but faces the question, “Who am I now that I don’t have a career, or a paycheck, or peers who make me feel good about myself?”

♥ When those kids go to school, and she finally has a few hours to herself, but she finds herself asking, “Who am I now that I have some time, but can’t remember what I like to do anymore?”   Read more

// Have you ever noticed that people don’t need to be reminded to worry every day? Or to be afraid? Or to be angry? Those things come quite naturally, don’t they?

I don’t know about you, but I often find that I need to be reminded to ENJOY every day. I need that extra kick-in-the-butt to turn my attention FROM my problems to the simple fact that “I’m alive” and “the sun is shining.”

Some years ago, a friend of ours was traveling through South Africa and happened to preach at our church on Sunday morning. He preached a profoundly simple sermon called “What are you packing in your kid’s lunch today?” which radically challenged how I wake up and approach my days.   Read more

Use Your LIFELINE: “I’d Like to Call a Friend”

I felt that little niggling feeling. “You’d better call her.” I knew exactly who He was talking about, and she had been on my mind all day. Brand new baby, restless toddler, and a husband away on a business trip. I promised that I’d look out for her, so I knew I should check in.

I’d like to say that I obeyed immediately, but I didn’t. I got distracted with a busy household and lunch preparations. Before I knew it, two hours had passed. No excuses.

The amazing thing about Holy Spirit is that He OFTEN whispers to us about people, exactly when THEY need it, not necessarily when it’s convenient for us. Read more
