Day 6 – What Do You Need? 13 Scriptures to Bring Comfort

Day 6 - What do you need?

//  What do you need today? What is your heart’s desire?

For some of us, the answer may be relatively simple… I need better results at school. I need a different job.

For others, the answer may be more difficult… I need more money. I need the pain in my body to stop. I need more time in the day.

And still, for others, the answer is entirely out of their control… I need a miracle. I need my spouse back.

This week, two of my precious friends lost their spouses, both after a devastating battle with cancer. Our hearts are broken for both of them and their families. Life is not fair.

“Father, if only we could turn back time. I want the impossible.”

And yet, in the middle of the heartache, do you know what I hear? Music. Songs from my youth. Melodies start, and lyrics follow, whisking me back to precious moments with God from yesteryear…

One thing is needful, oh my Father

One thing is needful, oh my God

That I sit at Your feet and pour out my love

This thing is needful, oh my Lord  Read more

7 Ways to Bring God into your Kid Chaos

// “We know that we should be spending more time with God each day, but our biggest problem is finding time in the middle of the kids and busyness and noise.

“Do you have any advice that worked for you?”

Such a sincere question, spoken in a roomful of beautiful mommies who were gathered for a morning of companionship, encouragement, and community. Moms who are dedicated to staying connected with each other in this season of babies and toddlers.

You know that verse that says “the older women should teach the younger women”? Well, I’m not sure I like the label of ‘older woman,’ but I knew I was incredibly privileged to be invited into this intimate setting to share my experience and wisdom.

I thought for a moment. My mind started replaying those early years of having four kids under the age of 6.

I remembered the noise, the mess, the desperation for quiet…

“My friends, there are actually two needs here. There is a desperate need for quiet, and there is a desperate need for God. Both are equally important for mental and spiritual health, but they are not the same thing.    Read more

Day 17: Smart Enough to Keep Learning

This largely unedited free-write is linking up with the Write 31 Days Challenge. // indicates the start and stop of five minutes. The prompt word for today is STUDY. Go!

//  I love the quote that says,

“Educating yourself does not mean that you were stupid in the first place; it means that you are intelligent enough to know that there is plenty left to learn.” ~ Melanie Joy

My friends, just because you are tired, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn SOMETHING. Studying and learning is what keeps you fresh and inspired. Believe me, there is nothing inspiring about cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Those chores NEVER end, and they rarely satisfy (although there is something beautiful about a freshly folded closet).

But the point is… We MUST keep learning! We MUST keep studying!

Why?

  1. Because it’s good for us―it keeps us young!
  2. Because our kids like it when we learn―it makes them proud of us!
  3. Because it inspires them to also learn!
  4. And “Just Because I Said So!” (This is a month dedicated to Mom Advice, after all.)

So, TODAY WAS A BIG DAY FOR ME! I didn’t really tell many people, but today I wrote my

Grade 8 RockSchools Vocal Exam

(that’s why I’ve been so absent lately, and why yesterday’s post just got published an hour ago)

exam-picI’ve wanted to do it forever but was either too busy or too scared to try. This year, with Raelynne leaving for school, and me deciding that I needed to “GET A LIFE,” I finally went for it!

Yes, it was flippin’ hard, and I worked my butt off to get to this place, but IT’S DONE! And regardless of the outcome, let me tell you…

I FEEL SOOOOO PROUD OF MYSELF!

To make the day even more special, I shared the accomplishment with Rachel who wrote her Grade 3 Vocal Exam and David who wrote his Grade 3 Electric Guitar Exam! How special is that?!

Here’s a picture that was taken of us just after our exams…

Actually, I FEEL SOOOO PROUD OF ALL OF US

Bucket List:  “Finish Grade 8 RockSchools Vocals exam”…. CHECK! ♥

Now, to sleep.
