Happy Women’s Day – Quietly Confident
/0 Comments/in Inspire Me!, Living Overseas /by Shauna BlaakHAPPY WOMEN’S DAY!
Ahhhhh, I love public holidays. I love the joy of turning off the alarm clock and snuggling back under the covers. Warm, cozy. No appointments, no responsibilities. In my opinion, ANY holiday is a good holiday.
One of the challenges of living overseas is not having a built-in consciousness of that particular nation’s public holidays. I mean, I’ve lived most of my life in Canada, and I can tell you EXACTLY when the public holidays will be. In fact, I’m quite certain that my body clock resets itself by those dates… Family Day, Spring Break, Victoria Day, Canada Day, August long weekend, Labour Day weekend, Thanksgiving, and finally Christmas. I ♥ it!
But what happens when you move to another country and lose that internal holiday clock? You become “royally” MESSED UP, that’s what.
Finding Gold (plus a video from Graham Cooke)
/0 Comments/in Books, Inspire Me! /by Shauna BlaakAs I’ve been getting feedback from my readers on my upcoming book, “Finding the Proverbs 31 Woman in the Middle of Kid Chaos,” I’m realizing afresh just how important and timely this whole discussion is about IDENTITY.
Living according to what God says about us and not what we feel or think about ourselves.
I’ve been ‘chewing’ on this topic for a number of years now, and I NEVER seem to run out of things to learn. Why?
Lightness Follows Choosing (and a bonus video)
/13 Comments/in Five Minute Fridays, Inspire Me! /by Shauna BlaakChanging gears is a grind. Busy doing one thing, completely focused, emotionally spent, then needing to change that focus and engage differently.
Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
Such are Thursdays for me. Every week. Why such a challenge? Because the enemy of my soul knows that Thursday evening is the time when I engage my community and enjoy my God. He is committed to keeping me distracted and soulish, starving my spirit and nursing emptiness.
Every time.
Purpose Isn’t a Straight Line (what shall we do first?)
/0 Comments/in Five Minute Fridays, Inspire Me! /by Shauna BlaakIf I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard the question “What is God’s will for my life?” I would be a very wealthy woman.
I know you can relate. It’s the question we ALL ask ourselves when we are trying to make decisions about the future, regardless of age or gender.
Now, after twenty-five year of pastoring, that question hasn’t gone away. In fact, more people are asking it than ever.
Thankfully, I had a very wise person say to me years ago…
“Shauna, God’s will isn’t a straight line. It’s more like a backyard with a lot of options and a strong fence.”
What on earth does that mean?
